Supported by an established team of experienced industry and technical experts, your role will be to develop and implement strategies for the discovery of innovative antibacterial drugs and to conduct translational research to characterize novel antibacterial agents. The role entails taking responsibility as project champion in research programs conducted either in-house or with external collaboration partners from initiation of the program to the support of clinical trials as well as acting as the representative for preclinical pharmacology in development project teams. (Senior) Scientist Bacteriology - m/f/d in full time / reporting to the Head of Research Provide translational antibacterial expertise (both strategic and operational) to support AiCuris' antibacterial research and development programs, and to expand our drug discovery pipeline Initiate new drug discovery programs based on commercial and scientific opportunities, and optimize hits and leads to development candidates in a timely, scientifically sound and business-oriented manner Coordinate scientific projects, guide, motivate and develop interdisciplinary drug discovery teams, and manage tasks and timelines Collaborate with other disciplines such as chemistry and pharmacokinetics as well as external partners and CROs Act as antibacterial expert representing nonclinical pharmacology in internal research and development project teams Provide expert input to clinical research and business development Assess the competitor landscape and contribute to the scientific assessment of external projects within due diligence processes (Senior) Scientist Bacteriology - m/f/d in full time / reporting to the Head of Research Present research data internally and at scientific conferences PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, human biology or related fields 2+ years of experience in research in major pharma or biotech company, or respective academic environment is mandatory Deep knowledge of antibacterial drug discovery and development processes as well as business aspects covering conventional antibiotics and novel strategies, competitor landscape, medical need and commercial opportunities Expertise in the physiology, metabolism, genetics, virulence and resistance development of bacterial pathogens; experience with novel therapeutic approaches such as phages, peptides or lysins is a plus Good experimental knowledge of a broad range of in vitro and in vivo methodologies for antibacterial drug evaluation as well as understanding of pharmacology, PK/PD and clinical microbiology Scientific experience in designing, conducting and/or supervising experiments; experience in preparing scientific reports Strong organizational and analytical skills, ability to efficiently evaluate, to prioritize and to handle multiple project tasks strategically Highly motivated, able to work independently and in a team, and to lead interdisciplinary teams including external partners Fluent in English; German language skills would be an advantage Because of the nature of the work, hepatitis B vaccination is required Cooperation in multinational and interdisciplinary teams An exciting field of activity in a promising research and development company Flexible working hours and self-determined time management Flexible combination of on-site work and mobile working Regular and targeted further training and individual development opportunities Attractive remuneration and company pension scheme A wide range of offers in terms of health and reconciling work and family life
