Significant research experience is preferred. A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field is essential. A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken). The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline. Be eager to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish. We are seeking a researcher, preferably with a background in computational biology or single-cell analysis and/or plant biology and microbiology to join our team as an Associate/Senior Editor. Editors at Nature Biotechnology critically evaluate manuscripts for suitability for the journal, select appropriate peer reviewers and manage the peer review process as well as other editorial tasks designated by the Chief Editor. Candidates must have a PhD in an area relevant to genetics, molecular biology, omics, or computational biology; there is a strong preference for postdoctoral experience and a strong research record. Applicants from academic labs or industry are welcome to apply for this role. Editorial experience is beneficial but not required. Pursues an active and efficient acquisitions policy through correspondence, required meetings/trips, telephone, consultations with advisors, etc. Approximately 20%-40% travel as well as strong initiative and independent functioning. Prepares and executes publishing contracts in regard to US product. Maintains and develops a circle of reviewers and advisors and evaluates their judgments.
