You are committed to broaden, enhance and support Grünenthal’s capabilities in identifying and validating novel pain targets relevant to our mission. You identify and investigate the biology underlying new molecular targets and you lead projects from the exploratory phase to candidate approval. You are responsible for the development and execution of innovative human disease-relevant test systems (from HTS and multiplex assay platforms to functional readouts with translational value) across the portfolio with internal and external resources. You are accountable for supporting and accelerating the identification of clinical candidates, in the context of a deep understanding of the underlying cause of painful conditions. You lead a team of internal Scientists and technical colleagues and are responsible for performance management & talent development as well as managing external collaborations. You are responsible for ensuring high quality experimentation, analysis and  data management/reporting and the use of statistical tools and automation to increase quality and efficiency. You have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, molecular pharmacology or a related discipline plus more than 10  years of related post-doctoral working experience in an industrial environment. You are an experienced target biology scientist with deep understanding of the principles of identifying and validating targets. You are an experienced project leader and drug hunter with a track record of taking projects from the exploratory phase up to candidate approval You are an experienced and motivating leader and have managed labs and people in Pharma and/or Biotech You have proven expertise in setting up innovative, translationally validated assays and sophisticated in vitro test systems, have an eye for quality and with up to date knowledge of best practice across the industry, including state of the art data analysis, statistic tools and automation. You are outwardly facing and have proven experience in setting up and managing international external collaborations with academics, Biotechs and contract research organizations You have experience of working in teams with matrix reporting and ensuring smooth and productive communication and interactions with key stakeholders. You have fluent English language skills (spoken and written); German language skills are beneficial. You have broad international & intercultural working experiences.
