Cell Test Engineer (m/f/d)

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually. We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå and Northvolt Zwei in Germany. The Northvolt–Volkswagen Group joint venture is establishing a gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Northvolt Zwei takes its design from the Northvolt blueprint for battery manufacturing developed for Northvolt Ett. Start of construction is planned for 2021 and start of operations beginning of 2024. Initial annual output will be at least 16 GWh. Northvolt Zwei has an exciting job offer for a Cell Test Engineer (m/f/d) to join our new quality team in Braunschweig. In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. You will be defining equipment specifications, choose the best equipment for a given task as well as maintaining the equipment and the test methods for evaluating cells. Furthermore, you will be responsible for educating operators and executing the work with high quality standards, be responsible for procedures and documentation associated with the cell testing activities. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Execute FAT, installation, commissioning and SAT of equipment and instrumentation including training. For test team personnel in accordance to project delivery milestones. Work in the expansion project and contribute to planning and execution of the project. Work closely with and progress the project together with Northvolt experts and specialists from technical, R&D, procurement, quality, construction areas. Plan and execute testing of cells in different phases of development and mass production. Develop working procedures and structures for the test team. Drive continuous improvement and development of methodology and technology. Provide technical expertise, guidance and training to junior staff and technicians. Develop relevant new test methodology and equipment together with Validation and QC team. Experience from working with new software and driving automation of testing and data evaluation. Work with Digitalization team to secure traceability, data collection and reporting. Education/Experience MSc degree in Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering. Experience with R&D, li-ion battery testing and high voltage testing is highly preferred. Technical leadership and coordinating skills in a highly flexible and frequent changing environment are a must. Experience working with different standards and testing for certification for li-ion batteries. Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skill. Experience in installation, commissioning and acceptance testing of equipment. Specific Skills/Abilities Excellent English and German written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus. Highly organized and result-driven. Proactive and goes beyond expectations. Has a “can do” attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit. Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management. Ability to work in a high profile and often high pressured international environment. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. You will be in charge of improvements of quality and performance for process and products in manufacturing. As Process Quality Engineer (m/f/d) you also set up excellent risk management system and tool setup to ensure quality in innovating product environment. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Coordination and moderation of FMEA sessions and documentation in the APIS IQ tool. Transfer of R&D know-how to process and process technology. Carrying out development-related risk analyzes as part of new product projects internally and at the customer (OEM / Tier-1). Ensuring method conformity (FMEA) taking into account customer specifications. Carrying out fault tree analyzes (FTA) with appropriate classification of the components Measure tracking within the FMEA process. Status reporting to the responsible functions. Adaptation of process requirements in FMEA relation for safe ramp up. Maintain and create standard modules in the P-FMEA. Establishing PFMEA's, process flow charts and MSA. Defining, establishing and owning the Quality Control plans for each process operation. Education/Experience MSc degree in Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering. Education in relevant quality and industrialisation discipline. Education and Experienced FMEA Moderator (m/f/d). Experience in MSA, DMAIC, DoE, PPAP and control plan development. Certified six sigma professional, i.e. green or black belt. Knowledgeable in statistics and multivariate data analysis. 5+ years of relevant work experience within high volume assembly/production. Experience of quality management in relevant industry, e.g. battery, automotive, pharma, food, pulp & paper, FMCG. Knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM. Experience in developing processes, standards, procedures and documentation in an efficient way to ensure high quality products to meet customer requirements. Expert in non-conformity management and 8D. Specific Skills/Abilities Excellent English written and oral skills, German/Swedish is a plus. Highly organized and result-driven.
