Data Engineer (m-f-d)

We are looking for an engaged Data Engineer who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment. The Scope The Data Engineer will make data accessible to internal and external FSC stakeholders in a way that encourages and embeds data use in all - big and small, everyday - actions and decisions. Data Engineer (m-f-d) To maintain, enhance and manage the quality and usage of data in FSC by: Establishing processes for ETL for data from various structured and unstructured data sources into a data store that is suitable for business analytics and decision making. Designing stable, reliable, and effective databases. Optimizing and maintaining legacy systems (such as Salesforce, MySQL). Modifying and testing databases according to needs and requests. Solving database usage issues and malfunctions. Liaising with developers to improve applications and establish best practices. Gathering user requirements and identifying new features and enhancements. Supporting development of technical documentation and end-user training resources. Research, recommend and implement new database products, services and protocols to meet data and information needs for various FSC user groups/stakeholders. To establish, manage and document processes and structures ensuring high quality of data, data standardization, and consistency across various platforms and reports, including but not limited to: Review of FSC information and data sources with a view to understand, re-design, re-model and re-deploy the database structure where necessary to adapt best practices in data management. Data standardization across FSC business units. Practical and user-friendly workflows and protocols that facilitate information capture, design, collection, quality, storage, and reporting on data consistently across FSC departments. Compliance of data assets and data processing with relevant legislation. Coordination and facilitation of the rigorous clean-up and information integrity processes while delivering data products. Development, modernization and improvement of Information Schemas and their maintenance. Compatibility of FSC Information Models with the ISEAL Core Metadata Standard. To manage projects related to data gathering, standardization, and management, including but not limited to: Online reporting for FSC evaluations (forest management and chain of custody). Enhance the certificate management processes. To ensure the data stores perform with high efficiency, reliability, and the single source of truth. To establish, implement and manage consistent processes for data sharing with internal and external stakeholders, in cooperation with Legal Department. Additional Tasks as assigned by the formal supervisor. Education and Training: University degree in a relevant field, for example, computer science or data science. Working Experience, Style and Skills: 4-5 years’ relevant experience in data modelling, big data platforms, creating data pipelines, data integration in databases, data warehouses and data lakes. Proven work experience as a Database developer. In-depth understanding of data management concepts and practices (e.g. metadata, permissions, recovery, security, privacy, quality, and monitoring) and data integration (ETL/ELT) procedures. Working knowledge of software development and user interface web applications Experience in manipulating data sets and building analytical models to derive high quality business intelligence insights. Proven record of successfully managed data projects and modernization of organizational data assets and infrastructure. Strong problem-solving skills and a strong focus on end-user experience. Knowledge of components and aspects of GDPR and their impact on information and data management in applicable software and platforms. Excellent estimation and management of delivery timelines. Ability to perform well while handling competing priorities and several functions. Solution oriented attitude to work. A strong sense of diligence and service. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Languages: Fluency in English (spoken and written). Spanish is a plus. Computing Skills: Good knowledge of and hands-on expertise with: Data and web service integration. Spark, Hadoop, Postgres, Cassandra, or similar platforms. Computer programming languages (preferably Python, SQL, etc.) and manipulating large data sets. On-premise and cloud-based solutions (preferably Azure and AWS). PowerBI, Tableau or other advanced information and data analytics tools. Microsoft Office 365 products. Communication Skills: Proven excellent presentation skills. Proven excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, fostering deep stakeholder engagement. Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations. Ability to communicate complex technical tech concepts to business users. Additional valuable skills: Knowledge of certification systems such as in forestry and environmental sciences. Statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications. Working knowledge of the ISEAL Core Metadata Set / Standard. Open Knowledge and Interoperability repositories, e.g., Dspace, Fedora. MS Dynamics. Salesforce. Preferably an academic degree in IT, Business Informatics, or a similar field Relevant experience in the field of Data Analytics / Science / Engineering Several years of experience in the field of data sources extraction, transformation, and visualization tools (e.g. SQL, Power BI, SAP databases, Data Warehouses, R, Python, Excel, Azure Data Factory) You have in-depth knowledge and track record of Business Process Management and Continuous Improvement using common methods and tools. Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma is an advantage Having SAP functional and process knowledge (e.g. FI, MM, SD) is a big plus You have sound knowledge of Project Management techniques, including agile working methods, and how to drive change in organizations You fit in culturally with our highly motivated and international team You speak fluent English. Data Scientist (m/f/d) for the Development of Quantitative Genetic Applications

Then start with us as Data Scientist (m/f/d) for tool and product development for classic plant breeding including field data evaluation, quantitative genetic analysis, and farmer recommendation systems within the Biostatistics team of KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA. The position is in full-time and for an unlimited period at our headquarter in Einbeck. In a well-rehearsed team, the possibility to work remotely is given based on arrangement. In this role, you can expect to be involved in biostatistical projects focused on software engineering for instance for innovative phenotypic evaluation methods, molecular diversity assessment, genomic prediction, or genome wide association mapping within breeding up until digital product development for farmers like yield prediction. Many projects involve combining phenotypic data, molecular marker data and environmental factors for predictive breeding and making recommendations to farmers. Maintaining and extending the existing tool landscape for analyzing phenotypic and molecular data while considering environmental data for predictive modelling to support breeding and farmer applications. Benchmarking and validating new methods based on simulations and empirical data before productive implementation. Developing and optimizing data analysis tools for use in classic breeding for e.g. phenotypic evaluation and marker-assisted breeding schemes for all crops. Initiating and managing projects to identify and implement cutting-edge statistical methods. Optimizing the performance and efficiency of tools for processing large datasets. Providing statistical support and conducting data science projects in all areas of KWS. Monitoring scientific literature and patent applications. MSc or PhD university degree in statistics, mathematics, quantitative / population genetics with focus on data analysis and statistics or similar qualification with extensive work experience. Strong background in R or Python programming. Experience in statistical modeling (linear mixed models, multivariate parametric and non-parametric methods). Passion for data analysis and the ability to handle large data sets. Excellent team player and good communication skills. Professional written and verbal communication skills in English. This would be a plus: C++ or Rust as well as Knowledge related to basic Linux system administration and BASH. Bayesian statistics Good knowledge of the Git version control system and continuous integration / deployment. Interest in biological questions, exposure to plant breeding / genetics Familiarity with working on a High-Performance Computing Cluster.
